Philosophy of Education for Post COVID - 19 World

If we continue with the current system of education in the post COVID-19 world and expect different results, it is ridiculous. The governments are planning to introduce 'health and hygiene' into the school curriculum so as to fight against the rapidly transmitting virus. While it is a great move to make children imbibe habitual actions like maintaining hygiene, it is not enough. The Bigger Picture of Learning The current philosophy of education does not focus on making children understand how the world operates weaving a complex web, the codependency of us humans on other humans, animals, and nature and does not enable a child to assess the impact created by an action. For instance, the typical questions that a child studying history asked are: Who assassinated who? Which year did the war take place? And many more objective questions. I believe that we should start asking the questions other way around. Why did the aristocrat do the things he did?  Are those actions f

Dear mothers...

My family has a pet dog who is a labrador, named Arya after Arya Stark of Game of Thrones. Each of our family members loves her and is grateful for her presence. While we enjoy her tantrums, she is peculiar as she is disinterested in food and wants us to feed her, no matter how delicious the food is. I treat her as my sibling, miss her the most when I'm away from home, and enjoy her tantrums when with her. So, feeding her is an extra job apart from taking her to walks, bathing her, cleaning the mess she makes, and buying supplies for her. Thus, we divided the tasks among ourselves as it is everybody's responsibility to take care of her. About a couple of days ago, I took her along with me to my older sibling's place to meet her on her birthday. Though I had slept late that night, I woke up early, took her to walk, and got breakfast ready to feed her since she is used to specific timing for walking and breakfast. She refused to come near the bowl and started to growl wh

You Had One Job!

On average, a human spends one-third of his/her lifetime, working. It approximately translates to 90,000 working hours. 90,000 hours!  Don't you think it's a staggering figure? As a child when someone asks what we want to become, the child knows no bounds and says that he/she wants to become something that absolutely fascinates him/her. The twinkle in those children's eyes, the absolute commitment, and contentment in those words can make us absolutely enthralled. Why do we lose that sparkle as we grow up? 'You'll earn over $200k a year if become XYZ,' they said. ' You must learn Python to survive through the next decade,' they said. 'Become a data scientist,' they said. THEY SAID. If you don't feel excited to describe your job role to someone, or you do your job just to make a living or just working for the role or brand of the organization that you can put up on your resume expecting it to help you land into another job you d

Sale!! Hurry up!!

Who doesn't love sale? It makes the things we have been planning to buy, affordable. The red hoardings with 'SALE' written on them in bold and the advertisements that prompt us to rush to the store to not miss the products we love, create an urge and make us overwhelmed. It's a great deal between consumers and capitalists as the consumers get to buy things at lower prices and capitalists get to clear the lot which seem to be not sold anymore at the specific rate (number of products sold/ unit of time) and/or specific price. The motive of a producer to sell a product at discounted price is apparently to bring in new products and earn more profits. No capitalist sells his/her products at discounted price because he/she loves the consumers. Yet, it's a win-win situation. Here in Jaisalmer, I'm working for improving Student Learning Outcome of the students in government schools. Jaisalmer is as big as Kerala, but has density of population as low as 19 persons/ s
